Founded in 2010 by the Roselló family, La Catalana brings the soul of Catalonia and Spain to the Bay Area through an artisan, passion driven dining experience. Our mission is to transport diners to a true Spanish-Catalan environment with handcrafted culinary creations, award-winning Chef Nicole Freitas and Chef Montserrat leading a kitchen rooted in tradition yet driven by innovation. Alongside classic and modern tapas, rice dishes, and fideuà rarely found in the U.S., we offer a carefully curated selection of hand-picked Spanish and Catalan boutique wines.

About Us

Good wine is essential to our menu and overall experience at La Catalana. Wine is the only art form in the world that you can truly partake in, and for us, it is an extension of culture, history, and emotion. That is why we are deeply committed to bringing the finest Spanish wines to our table. Each bottle is hand-selected, and we proudly partner with boutique, often exclusive wineries to offer distinctive, high-quality wines that you won’t easily find elsewhere.
Our food philosophy mirrors this same approach. La Catalana offers a thoughtful balance of traditional and innovative Catalan and Spanish tapas, constantly evolving and introducing dishes, rice specialties, and fideuà that are still largely unknown in the United States flavors and techniques you would typically only experience if you were a local in Spain or Catalonia. We don’t follow trends; we honor tradition while allowing creativity to guide us forward.
Everything we serve is made with love, intention, and passion. We prioritize quality above all else, sourcing most of our vegetables from local farmers’ markets and working with ingredients that respect both the land and the season. Award-winning Chef Nicole Freitas leads the kitchen alongside Chef Montserrat, creating the magic behind every dish. Chef Nicole’s background includes work in high-level kitchens and formative training in Valencia, Spain, under Toni Montoliu, a true master of paella and rice cooking.
Our goal at La Catalana is simple and uncompromising: to introduce our guests to the real essence of Catalan first and foremost and Spanish cuisine. That is why we don’t commercialize our food or wine. Instead, we offer something different, something personal. Creativity, authenticity, and craftsmanship are at the heart of what we do and that is where the true difference lies.

Dine with us Monday through Saturday and enjoy a warm, inviting atmosphere where live music sets the mood on Fridays and Saturdays. Throughout the year, we host special quarterly wine tasting events designed to be discovered and savored. We’ve also expanded our space, now offering private rooms perfect for intimate gatherings and special occasions.
